The "Family History Help
and Product Review Newsletter!"
I believe that preserving memories, and passing those preserved memories down to our
kids and grandkids, is one of the most important and noble things we can do.
I've been the beneficiary of several journals and lifestory accounts, that were passed
down to me.
On this particular line of my family, I have photo-copied journal entries
written in the earlier 1800s. It is a real treasure for our family.
One of my favorite sayings is "Stories, once forgotten, can never be retold". How
sad but true?
These two quotes by Dolly Berthelot of MineYourMemories.com really says it all:
"Too many Americans have ignored their ancestors and family history and not bothered to examine their
own life stories, much less share them with others. They too rarely share much of their past lives with
friends, or pass them on to their progeny. And yet we desperately need to do all that..."
"In a complex, mobile society like ours, life's tapestry gets shredded. The continuity of our lives is
ripped by transience and fragmentation. Community is fragile, torn, scattered. Our need to examine and
to share our stories is vital--for our own mental health, for our relationships and our cohesiveness
in community, and for the good of a future that can learn from our past."
